Who We Are

The Saltwater-Fisheries Enhancement Association (SEA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation and preservation of saltwater resources, with a specific focus on benefiting recreational users. As a 501(c)(3) organization, SEA operates as a tax-exempt entity, allowing it to devote its resources and efforts to its mission without the burden of federal income taxes.

What We Do

SEA was established in late 2000 as a grassroots organization by a group of concerned individuals who recognized the importance of protecting the inshore and offshore saltwater resources of the Coastal Bend of Texas. Since its founding, SEA has been committed to raising funds locally to address issues and support projects that enhance and protect the region’s saltwater fisheries.

Here are some examples of the initiatives to protect and enhance the inshore and offshore saltwater resources of the Coastal Bend of Texas that SEA has taken:

One of SEA’s core programs is habitat restoration, which involves restoring and protecting the critical habitats that support fish and other aquatic species in the area. This includes conducting research on the state of the ecosystem, identifying key areas in need of restoration, and working with local organizations and government agencies to implement restoration projects. For example, SEA has partnered with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department to install oyster reefs in the region’s bays, which provide crucial habitat for a variety of fish species.

Another major focus for SEA is promoting sustainable fishing practices. The organization has developed educational materials and conducted outreach programs to raise awareness about the importance of responsible fishing practices, such as catch-and-release fishing and proper handling of fish. SEA has also worked with local fishing guides to promote sustainable practices and has collaborated with academic institutions to study the impact of fishing on the ecosystem and identify ways to mitigate any negative effects.

In addition to these efforts, SEA has also advocated for policies and regulations that support the conservation and preservation of saltwater resources. The organization has worked with local and state officials to promote measures that protect critical habitats, limit pollution, and reduce the impact of development on the ecosystem.

SEA’s work to protect the inshore and offshore saltwater resources of the Coastal Bend of Texas has been multifaceted, ranging from habitat restoration and sustainable fishing practices to policy advocacy and public education. Through these efforts, SEA has helped to ensure the long-term health and viability of the region’s coastal ecosystem.

Through its various initiatives and programs, SEA has made significant contributions to the preservation of the coastal ecosystem and the enhancement of recreational opportunities for anglers. SEA’s work includes partnering with local businesses and organizations, government agencies, and academic institutions to conduct research, restore habitat, and promote sustainable fishing practices.

One of SEA’s notable accomplishments was the creation of the Redfish Rodeo, an annual fishing tournament that has become a popular event for anglers of all skill levels. The tournament raises funds for SEA’s conservation and education efforts while promoting responsible fishing practices and conservation.

Overall, SEA’s dedication to the conservation and preservation of saltwater resources has made a significant impact in the Coastal Bend community and beyond. Its efforts have helped to ensure that future generations can continue to enjoy and benefit from the region’s unique and valuable coastal ecosystem.
